Reference Images

Drop any image in as a floating reference window, paste, drag, or import.

Copy any image and press Ctrl/Cmd+V (or use the clipboard fab, or drag a file onto the window) to drop it in as a floating reference. Reference windows live in the viewport and can be moved, scaled, and faded.

PBR Mode

A reference window's menu carries Activate PBR Mode. With it on, that window follows the PBR sidebar's channel: select Normal and the window shows, and paints with, the normal map computed from its own image. Roughness, metallic, height and AO work the same way, and the overlay projection, the decal stamp and the clone source all pick up the generated map. Turning one flat reference photo into a full set of paintable PBR channels may well be a first for 3D painting. Of course, that only matters if it gets a believable surface onto your model faster than painting each map by hand.
