Mirror Brush
Brush over the model and whatever is painted on the far side of the symmetry plane is copied onto this side.
VIDEO ON THE WAY
Final video is on the way, thank you for your patience!
The copy happens in texture space and is pixel exact, so it is a true duplicate rather than a repaint. This is the way to make an already-painted side match when symmetry was off while you worked. Set which plane counts as symmetry in the symmetry controls before you start.
Option bar
- Initialize Image Field - Flattens the visible composite into the active layer, so the brush has pixels to pull from in areas the active layer has not covered. The caption beside it reports "Image field ready." or "Nothing to initialize.". It is dimmed while the source is All Layers, because flattening is exactly what that mode exists to avoid.
- Source: Active Layer - Mirrors the active layer only. Keep this when another layer holds a baked AO pass or a mask that must go on affecting the repair. Empty areas of the layer mirror as nothing, which is what Initialize Image Field is for. This is the default.
- Source: All Layers - Mirrors the visible composite of every layer. No initializing needed, because the brush always has pixels to pull from. Paint still lands on the active layer only.
Notes
- The correspondence map is baked once, on the first press.
- It copies texels rather than the lit view, so there is no brightness shift.
- Brushing either side pulls from the other. The effect is symmetric.
- The destination is always the active layer, in both source modes.
- The camera is locked while a stroke is held. One undo step per submesh per stroke.
- It shares the brush Size and Opacity, and Auto Fix Seams.
